Welcome to The Protection Plan. We urgently need your help.
In 2006, the Labor government promised to protect our few remaining old
growth forests. But it was a hollow promise. Despite the presence of the
threatened Long Footed Potoroo and high densities of Greater Gliders, the
government has just announced that logging will recommence at Brown
Mountain any day now.
This is in contravention of the East Gippsland Forest Management Plan which
states that high density populations of Greater Gliders should trigger
protection measures. More than the required density was found for both
Greater and Yellow-bellied Gliders. This should mean that 100 ha of
suitable habitat will be included in the SPZ (Special Protection Zone).
But, instead of protecting native habitat and trees more than 500 years
old, the government is ignoring its own regulations and allowing the
destruction of Brown Mountain to continue.
Please urgently contact Mr Brumby by emailing him directly from this site,
or by phoning, or writing a letter.
